25 October 2024 (Leyte) – The National Amnesty Commission (NAC), represented by Atty. Ma. Victoria Cardona, along with representatives from the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPAPRU)—including the Area Management Unit for Eastern Visayas (AMU EV), the Eastern Visayas Peace and Build Back Better Program (EVPBDF), and the Special Projects Team (SPT)—paid a courtesy visit to Jail Senior Superintendent Bernardo Sanchez of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Region VIII. The purpose of the visit was to discuss amnesty application concerns for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) and to provide support for the BJMP’s Therapeutic Community Program.
Jail Senior Superintendent Sanchez sought OPAPRU’s support for the de-radicalization and reintegration of PDLs involved in common crimes and insurgency-related offenses who are currently under their care and custody and are soon to be released.
The visit concluded with proposals for follow-up engagements between the NAC, BJMP, and OPAPRU.
