18 October 2024 (Davao City) –The Local Amnesty Board (LAB) in Davao City shared key insights on the Amnesty Program and its procedures during a coordination meeting of the Technical Working Group (TWG), convened by Davao City’s Peace 911.
The City Government of Davao established the TWG through an Executive Order to oversee the implementation of the Amnesty Program for former members of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF). This initiative underscores the city’s unwavering commitment to promoting peace and supporting the reintegration of former rebels into society. The TWG includes representatives from various city offices and government bodies, including the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), Department of Justice (DOJ), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Public Attorney’s Office (PAO), the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU), and the LAB Davao.
The meeting reviewed the progress of the Amnesty Program and outlined actionable steps to further its implementation. A workshop is scheduled soon to process amnesty applications from former rebels in Davao City.
The meeting was chaired by Atty. Jonah Margarette F. Presto, the Mayor’s Deputy Chief of Staff, focal person for Peace 911, and a member of NAC LAB-Davao. Other members of LAB Davao in attendance were Colonel Mike Banua, Deputy Brigade Commander of the 1003rd Infantry Brigade, Philippine Army (1003rd IB, PA), and Captain Dominador Labasa.
