22 January 2025 (Jipapad, Eastern Samar) – The Local Amnesty Board Secretariat of Catbalogan City facilitated an Amnesty Program Orientation in an event requested and organized by the 52nd Infantry Battalion.
The Special Project Team (SPT) of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) played a crucial role in the activity, sharing testimonies and providing assistance on the preparation of narratives and application forms. The former rebels actively participated in the event raising concerns and questions about their respective cases. An official from the barangay was also present who administered the applicants’ oath of allegiance to signify and solidify their commitment to reintegration.
The activity was well-supported by the local government with Jipapad Mayor Dr. Benjamin Ver gracing the event. Also in attendance were representatives from the MLGOO, MSWDO, PNP, and other barangay officials.
This collaborative effort demonstrates the government’s commitment to rehabilitating former rebels and promoting peace in the region. To close the activity, Mayor Ver led the distribution of food packs courtesy of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
