In line with its commitment towards the reintegration and rehabilitation of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) into mainstream society, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Region X, invited the Local Amnesty Board (LAB) in Cagayan de Oro to conduct a briefing and orientation of the government’s amnesty program at its detention facility in Barangay Lumbia, Cagayan de Oro.
The orientation was attended by PDLs from the male and female dormitories who were identified as having links to rebel groups and may qualify for the amnesty program. The LAB Secretariat provided an overview of the basic principles of the amnesty program, the application requirements, and the National Amnesty Commission’s (NAC) process flow as outlined in its Rules of Procedure.
The PDLs were also given the opportunity to raise concerns regarding their applications, considering the circumstances of their respective cases, and to ask clarifying questions. The goal of the session was to provide them with a clear understanding of how amnesty can transform their lives and open the path to a better future.
These engagements are seen as crucial steps in the government’s concerted efforts towards reformation, social reintegration and the overall goal of peace and reconciliation.
