Iloilo City – The Army’s 61st Infantry (Hunter) Battalion assisted four (4) former rebels (FRs) from the municipalities of Tubungan and San Joaquin, both in Iloilo province, in their application for amnesty with the Local Amnesty Board (LAB) of Iloilo on November 28, 2024, at the JFLAT Office, Camp Delgado, Iloilo City.
Lt. Col. Arturo Balgos Jr., the commanding officer of 61IB, assisted by Staff Sergeant Arthur Etiong, legal NCO, and Sergeant Eugene Tayag, accompanied and aided the four (4) FRs to the LAB Iloilo. The LAB Iloilo was headed by Mrs. Lucy Liezel Tanodra, with Mr. Marco Dava and Ms. Mae-Ann Baria also present. Atty. Flosimer Cris Gonzales facilitated the sworn oath of the four FRs, witnessed by Hon. Joemel Embate, a member of the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) of Tubungan, who expressed his continued commitment to peace-building efforts in the region.
The amnesty application is a vital process for the former rebels, allowing them to reintegrate into society and contribute to ongoing peace and development efforts. The collaboration between the military, local government, legal professionals, and peace advocates underscores the collective effort to achieve lasting peace in the region.”
