21 November 2024 (Iloilo City) โ€“ The Local Amnesty Board (LAB) Secretariat in Iloilo City facilitated the amnesty application of a party wife of a notorious extortionist affiliated with the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) at the Tapaz Municipal Hall, Tapaz, Capiz.

The applicant, a former member of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF), officially surrendered to Tapaz Mayor Roberto Palomar on 20 November 2024. Mayor Palomar extended support by coordinating with LAB Iloilo to assist in processing the amnesty application.

Mr. Marco Dava of LAB Iloilo explained the procedures and benefits of the governmentโ€™s amnesty program. Prosecutor Flosemer Chris Gonzales from the Office of the Regional Prosecutor VI administered the oath, while Ms. Juslenne Kaye Rondario provided additional assistance. Also present were Captain Jobert De Los Reyes of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Tapaz, members of the Tapaz Local Government Unit, and the Tapaz Municipal Police Station.

During the filing of the application, the applicant expressed concerns about the assurance of being granted amnesty and admitted lingering fears despite their decision to reintegrate into mainstream society.

Mayor Palomar emphasized that poverty, not the NPA, is the real enemy. Prosecutor Gonzales added that this surrender could encourage other members of the CPP-NPA-NDF in Tapaz to recognize the governmentโ€™s willingness to provide support and assistance.

The LAB Iloilo also visited the Regional Trial Court in Mambusao, Capiz, and the Public Attorneyโ€™s Office to discuss the amnesty program with relevant stakeholders.

This development marks a significant step toward restoring peace in Tapaz, Capiz. The LAB Iloilo continues to coordinate with necessary agencies to ensure the governmentโ€™s amnesty program reaches communities in need, particularly in areas affected by insurgency.
