24 August 2024 (Isabela City, Basilan) — In a concerted effort to boost public awareness about the government’s amnesty program, the Local Amnesty Board (LAB) in Basilan participated in the Isabela City Good Governance (GoGo) Information Caravan. This initiative, led by Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman, the LAB Basilan Chairperson, featured a comprehensive orientation delivered to the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) community in Barangay Masola, Isabela City.
The orientation clarified the mandates of the National Amnesty Commission (NAC) and outlined the roles and responsibilities of LAB members and its secretariat. Key topics covered included the application process, required documentation, and the specific crimes covered for amnesty. Participants were guided through the application form and process flow and provided with detailed information on necessary requirements and proof of membership. Additionally, IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) materials in the Yakan language, containing the amnesty application process and frequently asked questions, were distributed to ensure that the information was accessible to all attendees.
The event also addressed a variety of queries from the attendees, helping to clarify doubts and encourage participation in the program.
As part of its ongoing efforts, LAB Basilan plans to intensify its education and awareness campaigns and continue its engagement with other MNLF and MILF communities across Isabela City and the wider Basilan Province, joining further caravans and information drives.
