12 August 2024 (Davao City) – The Local Amnesty Board (LAB) in Davao City continues its efforts to reintegrate former rebels (FRs) into society, having received an additional 21 amnesty applications from former members of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF). The latest applications, submitted on Monday at the LAB Davao office, represent the first batch of amnesty applications from the Davao Region.

This new set of applications from Davao Oriental Province was facilitated by the 701st Infantry “Kagitingan” Brigade of the Philippine Army and transmitted by the End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC), Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPAPRU) Local Conflict Transformation – Field Implementation Support Unit (LCT-FISU).

These recent applications add to the growing number of amnesty applications being processed nationwide by the National Amnesty Commission (NAC). To date, the NAC has received a total of 748 applications from various LABs across the country.

The LAB Davao expressed its gratitude to OPAPRU LCT-FISU, led by Director Elisa D. Evangelista-LapiΓ±a, as well as the Provincial Local Government Units (PLGUs), Department of Justice (DOJ), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and Philippine National Police (PNP) for their unwavering support in facilitating and assisting with the completion and submission of these applications. The NAC underscores the importance of this collaborative effort in achieving lasting peace and providing FRs with the opportunity to reintegrate into mainstream society as productive, peace-loving citizens.
