25 September 2024 (Sagay City) – The Local Amnesty Board (LAB) Secretariat in Bacolod City, in coordination with the 79th Infantry ‘Masaligan’ Battalion, headed by Lieutenant Colonel Arnel P. Calaoagan INF (GSC) PA, facilitated the amnesty application for nine former members of the Communist Party of the Philippines/New People’s Army/National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF).
Lieutenant Colonel Calaoagan welcomed the National Amnesty Commission (NAC), LAB Secretariat, and attendees, and also acknowledged the courage of the Former Rebels or Friends Rescued (FRs) in choosing peace over conflict. He emphasized the importance of Amnesty Program initiatives in fostering peace and reconciliation. Colonel Victor M. Llapitan, INF (MNSA) PA, Deputy Brigade Commander of the 303rd Infantry Brigade, was present and shared the vision of the LAB, the Philippine Army, and the National Government in bringing peace, reconciliation, and unity to achieve economic success.
The FRs took their oath in the presence of Atty. Cyril Joy T. Gerona from the Sagay City Prosecutor’s Office. The program concluded peacefully with a boodle fight, where the FRs and guests enjoyed the food prepared by the Masaligan Battalion.
