The Local Amnesty Board (LAB) in Iloilo City, in coordination with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and the Office of the Regional Prosecutor, represented by Prosecutor Flosemer Gonzales, visited the district jails in Guimbal, Iloilo, and Kalibo, Aklan, from 02 to 04 September 2024. LAB Iloilo also facilitated the processing of amnesty applications with assistance from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) through the 61st Infantry Brigade.
On 02 September 2024, LAB Iloilo visited the BJMP Guimbal District Jail to accommodate amnesty applications from persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) who are former members of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF). These PDLs had previously been visited by LAB Iloilo in June. Representatives from the Iloilo branch of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPAPRU), including Juniel Guath, Head of the Area Management Unit in Western Visayas, and Area Coordinator Hennie Dionela, were also present during the visit.
On 03 September 2024, Prosecutor Gonzales informed LAB Iloilo that the 61st Infantry Brigade, through Sergeant Eugenio Tayag, Jr., had coordinated with the Office of the Regional Prosecutor regarding two amnesty applicants. The applicants were brought to the Regional Headquarters of the Philippine National Police PRO6, where the LAB Iloilo Secretariat assisted them with their applications. Prosecutor Gonzales, supported by Ms. Juslenne Kaye Rondario, administered their oaths.
On 04 September 2024, Atty. Selwyn Ibarreta, Provincial Administrator of Aklan, and Romulo Del Rosario, OPAPRU Aklan representative, assisted LAB Iloilo in processing an amnesty application for a PDL currently detained in the Aklan District Jail. The PDL was accompanied by his lawyer, Atty. Eric Tanumtanum, who explained the benefits of the governmentβs amnesty program.
To conclude the series of visits, LAB Iloilo, together with Prosecutor Gonzales, paid a courtesy visit to Atty. Ibarretaβs office at the Aklan Provincial Capitol. During the visit, they discussed further coordination efforts to help restore peace in the province and support the reintegration of former rebels into society.
