08 August 2024 (Antique) – The Local Amnesty Board (LAB) Secretariat in Iloilo City visited the Municipal Hall of Sebaste in Antique to conduct an information campaign about the governmentβs amnesty program as well as to cater to applicants for amnesty. This effort was made in coordination with Hon. January Padpad, the Municipal Mayor of Sebaste. In order to assist the applicants with filling in their application forms, members of the LAB Secretariat were assisted by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), headed by Mr. Ernesto Galido; the Philippine National Police – Sebaste (PNP Sebaste), headed by PCol. Harry Jhun Amar; and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) through LTC Arturo Balgos, Jr., the Commanding Officer of the 61st Infantry Brigade.
The information campaign conducted saw the filing of applications by 29 former members of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF) hailing from Pandan and Sebaste. The applicantsβ oaths were administered by Prosecutor Flosemer Gonzales, representing the Office of the Regional Prosecutor, with the assistance of Juslenne Kaye Rondario, Administrative Assistant III, .
After the information campaign in Sebaste, members of LAB Iloilo visited the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) District Jail in Culasi, Antique. There, three (3) persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) were informed about the governmentβs amnesty program and the ongoing efforts of the National Amnesty Commission to encourage former rebels to reintegrate into mainstream society.
Prosecutor Gonzales explained that the grant of amnesty will restore the individualβs civil and political rights, whether or not the individual is convicted or has a pending case. The PDLs expressed interest in availing of the amnesty program, but will further be assisted by the District Jailβs officers in filing their applications as part of the BJMPβs protocol in collecting information.
This most recent information campaign brings LAB Iloilo to a total of 110 applications received from former members of the CPP-NPA-NDF, so far. LAB Iloilo is set to coordinate with partner agencies in order to further spread awareness about the governmentβs efforts to promote inclusion and reintegration.
