24 to 25 March 2025 (Quezon City) โ€“ In celebration of International Womenโ€™s Month, the National Amnesty Commission (NAC) organized a two-day Gender and Development (GAD) Seminar at the Richmonde Hotel in Eastwood City. The event featured esteemed keynote speakers, Ms. Marie Cris R. Roco-Escape and Ms. Carly Anne S. Ramirez.

In her opening remarks, NAC Chairperson Leah C. Tanodra-Armamento emphasized the invaluable contributions of both men and women while reaffirming the Commissionโ€™s commitment to advancing gender equality and empowerment for all. She highlighted the NACโ€™s steadfast recognition of the intersection between justice, human rights, and genderโ€”reinforcing that the Commission welcomes applicants regardless of gender. Through open dialogue, advocacy, and a commitment to gender-inclusive policies, the NAC remains dedicated to addressing challenges and ensuring the efficient reintegration of former rebels into society.

The activity began with an introduction to Gender and Development, facilitated by Ms. Roco-Escape She discussed gender sensitivity in both domestic and workplace settings, as well as an outline on the existing laws and policies related to GAD. She likewise shared insights on incorporating gender perspectives in planning and budgeting.

The second day featured Ms. Carly Anne S. Ramirez, who led interactive workshops on Gender-Fair Language and Applying Gender Responsiveness in the Workplace. To apply these learnings, Mr. Maurice Mikkelssen Philippe Camposano, Chief Administrative Officer of the Administrative Department, and Mr. Manuel Mismanos, Jr., Chief Administrative Officer for Finance, delivered presentations on integrating GAD principles into administrative and financial processes. Their discussions aimed to strengthen inclusive governance operations and promote equitable economic growth.

Additionally, Atty. Rizal Thaddeus Acas, Attorney VI and Head of the Commission Secretariat, provided a primer on key updates from the Local Amnesty Board (LAB) orientation, ensuring participants were well-informed on the latest developments.

The seminar concluded with Commissioner Jamar Kulayan delivering the closing remarks, expressing gratitude to all participants and speakers for their engagement. He emphasized the importance of such initiatives in fostering a more peaceful, just, and equitable society, hoping this seminar serves as a stepping stone toward meaningful change.
