06 December, 2025 (Makilala, North Cotabato) – The Headquarters of the 39th Infantry β€œSmash ’Em” Battalion in Brgy. Poblacion, Makilala, North Cotabato successfully held the Pamaskong Handog para sa mga Friends Rescuedβ€”a Christmas gift-giving initiative dedicated to former rebels who have chosen the path of peace and reintegration.

With the support of the Office of the Vice President, represented by Ms. Sanlee A. Lacerna, VPSO II of the OVP Southern Mindanao Satellite Office, and through the close coordination of the 39IB, a total of 200 Friends Rescued received Bundles of Joy containing essential goods and holiday treats meant to bring warmth, comfort, and renewed hope this Christmas season.

Messages of encouragement and solidarity were delivered by representatives from partner agencies, including:

β€’ BGEN Apollo Jun F. Lamanton, Commander, 1002nd Infantry β€œBagwis” Brigade (represented by LTC Jaicris Jan P. Mendoza, GSC INF PA)

β€’ Ms. Arleen Timzon, RSW, PSWDO North Cotabato

β€’ Mr. Edgar C. Visabella, EO 70 Focal, North Cotabato

β€’ Mr. Luis Caytor, ECLIP Focal, North Cotabato

β€’ Ms. Mariannie B. Uy, Peace Program Officer III, Local Amnesty Board – Koronadal Head Secretariat

A key highlight of the program was the ceremonial handover of Safe Conduct Passes to eight Friends Rescued, led by Ms. Uy. These passes signify the government’s continued support in ensuring their safety and freedom of movement as they return to their communities, reunite with their families, and pursue peaceful and productive lives.

The successful ceremony reflects the National Amnesty Commission’s commitmentβ€”together with Local Amnesty Boards nationwideβ€”to supporting former rebels in their reintegration journey. Through initiatives like this, the government continues to strengthen unity, promote reconciliation, and build the foundations of lasting peace.

In his message, LTC Hector A. Estolas, INF (GSC) PA, Commander of the 39IB, appealed to those who remain in the armed movement, especially lie-low members of the CPP-NPA-NDF, to return home. He emphasized that now is the most opportune time to choose peace, rebuild their lives, and celebrate Christmas with their families, where healing and hope begin.

The event concluded with an atmosphere of gratitude, unity, and renewed optimismβ€”truly reflecting the spirit of Christmas and the government’s commitment to providing second chances and fostering lasting peace.
