During a meeting in Malacañang, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. approved in principle the two-year extension of the National Amnesty Program for former rebels. The initiative aims to strengthen government efforts to end decades of armed conflict and promote lasting peace in the country.

According to the National Amnesty Commission, the extension will allow more applicants to be accommodated, as more than 16,000 former combatants have already availed of the program since its launch in 2023. These include members of the Communist Party of the Philippines – New People’s Army – National Democratic Front, Moro Islamic Liberation Front, Moro National Liberation Front, and RPMP-RPA-ABB.

The Philippine National Police also expressed support for the continuation of the program, highlighting a balanced approach that combines law enforcement with community engagement. The government remains committed to advancing reconciliation, reintegration, and sustainable peacebuilding efforts. Source: https://newsinfo.inquirer.net/2218790/marcos-eyes-longer-amnesty-program
