In a collaborative effort, the Local Amnesty Boards (LAB) of Basilan and Pagadian, in partnership with Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Member of Parliament Baileng Mantawil and the Peace Security and Reconciliation Office (PSRO), conducted a series of jail visits to the 3 major detention facilities in Pagadian City and Zamboanga City on 24-25 October 2024 to assist Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) in accessing the government’s amnesty program. PSRO Deputy Director Malik Caril participated in the visitations to provide crucial support and lead efforts to verify applicants’ affiliations, particularly focusing on confirming Moro Islamic Liberation Fornt (MILF) membership.
The jail visitations took place at the Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Jail in Pagadian City, the Zamboanga City Jail-Male Dormitory, and the San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm (SRPPF).
During these visits, the LABs provided a comprehensive orientation on the government’s amnesty program and guided PDLs through the application process.
In total, 56 applicants—including members of the MILF, MNLF, and former members of the CPP-NPA-NDF affiliates—were assisted.
