14 September 2026 (Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental) – In a fitting commemoration of the celebration of National Peace Consciousness Month, the Local Amnesty Board in Cagayan de Oro together with the CDO City Social Welfare & Development Office (CSWDO) awards Fifty-One (51) Safe Conduct Passes (SCPs) to former members of the CPP NPA NDF at the Cronin Hall of the St. Augustine Metropolitan Cathedral in Cagayan de Oro on 11 September 2026.
The former rebel recipients are all beneficiaries of the National Housing Authority (NHA), residing at the Midland Valley Homes – an FR settlement project located in Barangay Dansolihon, Cagayan de Oro. Their reintegration and social support mechanisms are under the auspices the CDO CSWD in partnership with the local government of CDO, other line agencies and the CDO ECLIP Committee.
LAB CDO Chairperson, Regional Prosecutor Merlynn Barola-Uy is the Guest of Honor and Speaker. In her message, RP Uy thanked the assembled amnesty applicants for their trust in the government’s programs & lauded them for accepting the hand of peace. Members & representatives of the ECLIP Committee also gave their messages of support and solidarity, marking the SCP awarding as a pivotal step in the city’s committed efforts towards reconciliation.
In an expression of heartfelt gratitude, the leaders of the FR community welcome the SCP privilege as a concrete acknowledgement of the government’s sincere acceptance of former rebels back in society. They also remain very thankful to their handling unit – the 1st Special Forces Battalion PA, the 88IB PA and the 4th Infantry β€œDiamond” Division PA for standing by their side all throughout this journey.
The event ends with a candle lighting ceremony, serving as a poignant reminder of the collective commitment to reconciliation & national healing — allowing the light of peace to spread towards a wider circle of families, friends, communities and the entire nation.
